Although it sounds very formal, the counselling agreement is a non-legal agreement, made to establish a mutual understanding about how we would work together. It outlines the terms of our therapeutic relationship and allows for a safe and professional space for both you as the client and myself as the counsellor. It will explain:
- The expectations and responsibilities we have towards each other.
- Your rights as a client and the ethical boundaries of the therapeutic relationship.
- It will inform you of my professional details for example, my contact details and how to make payment and how to contact the professional standards agency I am a member of, if required.
- It will explain the ways in which I keep your identity and personal information confidential.
The agreement will be given to you in printed form or by email and can be discussed during the initial session to ensure full understanding.
